PPP – Industry Terminology Brush Up
One way of getting noticed and being proficient in the media industry is to:
- Learn the basic terminology of the technology and of the industry.
This not only ensures you know what you are talking about and what other professionals are talking about, but you are able to do your job properly. As I plan to enter the television industry I have looked up a glossary of terms of ‘TV Speak’ using creativeskillset.org.
From this I will be able to brush up on my knowledge of terminology and also learn much much more. I have created a PDF version in order to collate this information as it is so large. One of the industry tips I have been given is to create a little pocket glossary with all the terminology and jargon I will need and carry it around with me everywhere, as this way I will never be caught out.
TV Glossary : >>>*Media Television Terminology*<<<
There are also a glossary of terms for other media platform and categories; film, facilities, publishing, photo imaging, advertising, education and training, technical textiles, corporate, and animation.
Which can all be found at http://www.creativeskillset.org/careers/glossaries/
I would advise anyone to go and have a look at these and brush up on their terminology before entering the world of work as will it not only enhance their chances to impress but will allow them to avoid looking silly and uneducated if it is basic speak.
