A304MC Pass it on – Mentoring Session 2
For our second session we started off with another ice breaker, which was good as we were joined by a few people who weren’t in the session last week which meant we got to know them a little bit and they got to feel included within the group. We then timed each group to set up talk back and as none of them managed to do it in 2 minutes we carried the time on to see who could do it in the fastest and manage to pack down in 1 minute. There was one group that were particularly good as they knew what they were going to do and did it missing out on the target time by only 57 seconds. This task got them communicating with each other and busy on task and putting in to practice what they know and have learnt. There were a few people who weren’t there when we went through talk back and so took longer to set up but had two people that were able to help out and direct as they were there the previous week. We then got everyone to get into roles that they hadn’t been in before and practice, we didn’t have enough time to swap more than twice but it was ok. The group seemed more flustered this week and we could tell that there was some frustration with not being in a role long enough or getting the chance to be in a proper role as there was many more of them this week which meant there weren’t enough roles. In light of this we have advised them to prepare a small script that they can use as a template for the group to use as a run through so that they can run through things more smoothly and have more time in a role. We have also advised them to research their roles that they may be pitching for in particular so that next week each of them should know exactly what their role is and what is expected of them. This will help them also as they will have to do this as part of their module anyway and so will only benefit them, both in our mentoring sessions and their classes. Everyone seemed happy with this and agreed that this would help.
Alex and I have also extended our services and let a few of our group who were hanging around discussing their T.V show, know that if they want extra help they can add us on Facebook and let us know and we will be more than happy to help if we are free.
