A304MC Pass it on – Mentoring 4
Today was a day of teaching the class.
The first thing we did was set up the room how we thought it would be best to teach and then began one by one to teach the class something new. The majority of the class had chosen some sort of origami based activities where we created something out of paper which was really engaging and everyone had their own style of teaching; some went round to check everyone was up to the same point and helping if needed and others got frustrated when things weren’t going right.
As most of what we had done was paper making based I decided to go with my back up idea and teach the class how to draw Tweety Pie as it would be something slightly different and give all our hands a bit of a rest. It went really well as I used the Prezi presentation and the board to draw so that people could see what I was doing and follow easily. There was some really positive feedback commenting on how clear I was, the good use of space, the pace I taught at and how I allowed time for others to catch up. There was nothing bad to say, however, I had a point on which I could build upon which was to speak a little louder.
This was a good thing to teach as it got everyone engaged and everyone listening as they knew they had to follow instructions and concentrate . It was also an interesting subject to draw which made people more engaged as they wanted to know how to draw Tweety Pie and see for themselves how easy it is to do so. The most important point was that everyone achieved something at the end of it.
